Feed My Sheep

“As you have seen my face around the Yard, have you wondered about the backpack? Have you wondered what is in the pack?  Have you wondered what I am carrying in the bag?"  Jesus said something that has had a profound impact on The Salvage Yard:

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs."

Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep."

The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep."

                                            John 21:15-17 (NIV)

“You see Jesus said: Feed my lambs, take care if my sheep, Feed my sheep. Three times he asked Peter to take care of his sheep.  At The Salvage Yard we take Jesus words to heart and try to apply them to our own life.

“You know some give to the Church and expect the Church to give to the poor.  Yet the Church is giving less and less to the poor and keeping more and more to run operations.

“Is that what Jesus wanted when he said 'Feed my Sheep'?

“Through out time, communities served communities and people took care of one another.  Yet when the depression hit the Church was unable to take care of their own.  Since the depression the Church has not. Are we responding to Jesus call to "Feed his lambs, take care of his sheep, and feed his sheep'?”

“At The Salvage Yard, if someone is in need, we have learned God wants us to share.  Simon, Cage, Allie and I, we go down to the shacks under the bridge and feed the homeless.  For years, we took whatever we could scrounge up and went to the market.  Our grocery list contained lowcost meat, sodas, sometimes coffee, vegetables, bread, peanut butter and jelley.  We would cook up a cooler of soup, some sandwiches, and take it out under the bridges.”

“There we ministered to the homeless by proving them food, songs, and a kind word here or there. We did as Jesus asked us to do.  We "Fed his lambs, took care of his sheep, and fed his sheep'

Some friends of ours have opened there home as required to help those in trouble. When the churches wouldn't help or could not help, they extended a right hand of fellowship and loved these people as Jesus wanted.

One of our passions at The Salvage Yard is to encourage today's generation to seek Jesus in a much deeper way and to take Jesus at his word.  We believe that the Lord is interceding at the right hand of God waiting looking for a people who are once again willing to feed his sheep as Jesus meant for his sheep to be fed.

One might say but I don't have a lot.  When Jesus asks you to help, he knows what you have and don't have.  If you are obedient, the Holy Spirit will provide.  God is simply looking for someone who is willing to be obedient so that they can be used to bless others.  With out you, God's ministry here on earth can not go forward.  He has chosen us as vessels of God's Love to first receive and then give it away to others just as Jesus did.

What would happen if I fed Jesus' lambs, took care of his sheep, and fed his sheep?  What would happen if you fed Jesus' lambs, took care of his sheep, and fed his sheep?  What would happen if we fed Jesus' lambs, took care of his sheep, and fed his sheep?  Do you think Jesus is asking you to feed his sheep?  Are you willing to take Jesus at his word and learn to feed his sheep as Jesus wants his sheep to be fed?

We encourage you to both listen to what the Lord is saying to you, as well as to come expecting the Holy Spirit to provide you with opportunities to feed his sheep.

Lord, we come to your throne, we confess that we have let opportunity to feed your sheep slip away.  We ask for forgiveness.  Holy Spirit we ask that you would teach me, to teach us, what it means to feed your lambs, to take care of your sheep, and to feed your sheep.  Tell us not what we want to hear that will make us comfortable but teach us what we need to hear so that we might truly be able to be your arms and your legs and spread the Love of Christ to Jesus sheep.

In Jesus Christ name we pray. Amen.
